Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ’s: Clinical EFT
What is Clinical EFT Tapping?
Clinical EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques- Also known as EFT or Tapping is often now referred to as ‘psychological acupressure’ and commonly used as a self-applied stress reduction technique. It is a combination of:
Exposure therapy - focusing on a negative event or thought/feeling/sensation
Cognitive therapy - what are the thoughts about that now?
Somatic component - tapping on acupressure points and asking the body where the feeling, sensation is held in the body and what is feels like now?

What presentations do you see? How can EFT help?
As a trained Certified Clinical EFT practitioner I have done further advanced training in Clinical EFT for fertility and Clinical EFT for Birth Preparation. I have a special interest working with mothers who are expecting a baby or who have a children. Some of the concerns I see include:
Tokophobia (fear of child birth)
Fertility challenges
Anxiety around falling pregnant/ being pregnant/ birth/ postpartum
Boundaries with family and having a new baby
Birth Trauma
Pregnancy stress
Food cravings and food aversions
Preparing for birth (mindset/ worry around pain)
What evidence is there for Clinical EFT?
EFT has been used successfully with a range of conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), addictions, pain management, immune response, sporting performance, and physical and mental functioning. There is a growing body of evidence for the use of Clinical EFT. It is now a recognised treatment under NDIS in Australia.
‘What is EFT Tapping, How does it work and how do you tap?’ with Dr Peta Stapleton.
Is Clinical EFT the same as EFT or Tapping?
There can be some confusion out there when it comes to Clinical EFT because of the wide spread use of EFT, especially on social media platforms. Clinical EFT is the research and evidence based type of EFT. You can find qualified practitioners on EFT internationals website (including myself), which demonstrates their specific training in Clinical EFT. To become a certified Clinical EFT practitioner (like myself) you must complete a 21 hour training, followed by a 12 month long mentorship with regular supervision, clinical practise and personal practise. Other practitioners may call them selves EFT practitioners, but it is important to check what qualifications, experience and where they have trained to determine if they are the right fit for you. Find a Clinical EFT practitioner.
Why see a Clinical EFT practitioner?
There are many different techniques practitioners are trained in to become Clinical EFT practitioners. Although Clinical EFT can be used as a self-help technique, there are many techniques which are much easier to be used with a practitioner (I would argue that they are not really possible to do effectively or safely without a practitioner). Often as humans we have the best intentions to practise our skills outside of sessions, but this is often not the case, so being supported and guided with a safe and experienced practitioner can help you to work towards the goals you have .

FAQ’s: Mother baby support/ NDC
How can an NDC practitioner support me?
NDC practitioners can support you with your new baby. NDC practitioners are trained extensively in mother baby care through the NDC Institute lead by Dr Pamela Douglas. To continue to be called an NDC practitioner, practitioners must continue to have ongoing supervision and training with Dr Pamela Douglas. More information about my services are HERE.
Can you help with my babies sleep?
Infant sleep is a big focus in the NDC. I offer 1:1 consults which can support families to learn about biological sleep, investigate what some of the concerns are about your babies sleep and come up with a plan to support the whole family. I also offer live group sleep education workshops called, Twinkle, Twinkle Little star. You can find out when the next workshop will be by heading to the events tab HERE.
Whats the difference between a 1:1 sessions and your Twinkle Twinkle Little star sleep workshops?
The 1:1 consultations are tailored to you and your particular needs. We will discuss the direct concerns you and your family have, what your goals are, what you have tried, what you haven’t tried and come up with a plan that will work for you and your whole family. We will also discuss some of the biological education around sleep which will help with the plan head. Further check in consults can be booked as needed.
The group workshops are not individualised. We discuss the theory behind infant biological sleep needs and how you can best support your babies sleep. It is particularly helpful for families who are pregnant and wanting to start to get an idea of what infant sleep may look like, OR those how have a new baby and are wanting to get some ideas about continuing to support your babies sleep. It is not recommended if you are having large sleep issues or concerns as a family around sleep. If this is the case a 1:1 consult would be recommended.
Can I have my baby in the session with me?
Absolutely! This is so important that you feel comfortable. These NDC sessions are for you and your baby, and if another loving adult wishes to also be present that is also encouraged. Feel free to do what you need to throughout the session to support your baby ie: feeds, changes
I am pregnant and want to learn about what to expect when I have my baby, what do you suggest?
This is fantastic! Having a new baby is so exciting, but there can also be some overwhelm and conflicting advice in our current world. If you want to learn about infant biological sleep, attending the Twinkle, Twinkle little start workshops may be helpful. You can check out the next workshop HERE. Alternatively I would suggest that you check out Dr Pamela Douglas’s book ‘The Discontented Little Baby book’ which can be purchased HERE.
